How the resurrection shows God’s faithfulness

Sometimes life can deal you some really difficult cards – dealing with a long term sickness and believing God for healing, praying for a loved one to come to know Christ and change their ways and it seems nothing is happening, or maybe you’ve been praying for the right person to come along to share your life with and it seems God is not listening to your prayers. Recently I’ve been reflecting on Easter and the significance that it holds for Christians. Easter is the bedrock of our faith; if Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, then we are with no hope, and to be pitied above all people, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:19.

The disciples and other followers of Christ must have felt a real sense of hopelessness after Jesus’ death. I mean, they knew He said He would rise again but when He died, I can imagine that they wondered if what He said was true. Could He really be trusted? Their world as they knew it for the past three or so years had come crashing down and the one Person they had come to depend on was no more.

Sometimes when going through a tough time it can be hard to believe the promises God has given in the Bible, His Word. How can we believe that ‘He will never leave us nor forsake us’ when sometimes we feel like we have been left, forgotten and forsaken? How can He ‘care for us’ when we struggle to sometimes put food on the table? Or when we go to bed and cry ourselves to sleep each night because of loneliness?

Easter resurrection If you’ve ever felt like that, or are feeling like that right now, I want you to know that there is hope for you. On what we now term ‘Good Friday’, it may have felt to the disciples like their world had come to an end, but like one Pastor put it, ‘Sunday’s coming!’ You may feel like you’re in a ‘Good Friday’ kind of season, where life just seems dark and gloomy. I want you to trust that your ‘Easter Sunday’ is coming!

On Resurrection Sunday, everything changed. The chains of death and everything that comes along with it were broken. God proved Himself to be all powerful and for the disciples who may have been doubting, faithful to His Word. When the disciples saw Jesus, they could hardly believe it, but I imagine that all the doubts they may have had in the days prior, suddenly disappeared. He said He would rise again, and He did! He is indeed trustworthy.

So, what about you? Do you trust Jesus? Do you believe Him when He says that His plans for you are good? That weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning? That all things are working together for your good?

Just as the disciples saw the resurrected Christ and they finally believed and understood all that He had been saying to them, in the same way, the resurrection shows us as believers today, that God is faithful, and we can trust what His Word says. Just as it gave them hope and confidence to go forth and change the world, you can also have hope for your future, and trust that God has everything under control.

This Easter, as you reflect and celebrate, why not take some time out to thank God for what the resurrection means for you. Commit to Him all those doubts, concerns, and worries that you may have and trust that He will show you His faithfulness in every situation.
